Chinese have been very meticulous about the etiquette for different occasions. The high-stemmed Dou Plates were dinnerware from the early Qin dynasty used for ceremonies. The tall and slender stem of the plate was designed based on how nobles sat kneeling down, and such design allows you to take food out conveniently from the plate. An irregular surface adds a touch of tenderness to the plates.
